ARWA Training Class

Instruments all around by HACH, Cybersecurity, Risk and Resilience and Emergency Response

This upcoming event will showcase a comprehensive range of laboratory products and services from HACH, a renowned leader in analytical instrumentation and solutions. Attendees will have the opportunity to explore HACH's cutting-edge laboratory testing equipment, precisely calibrated standards, and high-quality glassware that adhere to the strictest industry standards.

Moreover, a highly trained HACH instructor will be on hand to provide in-depth demonstrations and hands-on guidance, ensuring attendees gain practical knowledge on the proper operation and applications of each instrument. This invaluable expertise will empower attendees to maximize the potential of HACH's advanced solutions and streamline their laboratory workflows with confidence.

By attending this event, participants can expect to not only witness the latest innovations in analytical instrumentation but also acquire the skills necessary to leverage these tools effectively, ultimately enhancing the accuracy, efficiency, and productivity of their laboratory operations.

The class will cover Cybersecurity in the water and wastewater industry as it focuses on protecting critical infrastructure, such as treatment plants, SCADA systems, and distribution networks, from cyberattacks that could disrupt operations or compromise public health. It involves implementing safeguards like network monitoring, access controls, and employee training to defend against threats ranging from ransomware to unauthorized system manipulation.

Attendees will get a refresher on  Section 1433 of the Safe Drinking Water Act, as amended by the America’s Water Infrastructure Act (AWIA) of 2018, requires community water systems to conduct a Risk and Resilience Assessment (RRA) and develop or update an Emergency Response Plan (ERP). These documents ensure utilities evaluate risks to their infrastructure (including physical and cyber threats) and maintain actionable plans to prepare for, respond to, and recover from emergencies.

RRA and ERP

Section 1433 of the Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA) requires community water systems serving more than 3,300 people to conduct risk and resilience assessments and develop emergency response plans. It ensures utilities evaluate risks from natural hazards and malevolent acts, then implement strategies to enhance the security and resilience of their water infrastructure.
